Different versions of Medical 100DX?
« on: 19.10.2009, 21:35:22 »

Hi there,

does anyone know and can describe the different versions of the 100DX? I think I've heard of 3 different versions (at least).

I have the Dental III version, the one with fixed lens :

It can be removed but the diaphragm is electronic as on Canon EOS cameras :

I'm a bit late to the party but I attach a photo of my Medical/Dental 100 DX.  This one is a removable lens with separate power pack, teleconverter (fits inside the front hole in the lens) and power and synch cables.  I've also used it with an Olympus E-3 as the trigger voltage for the flash is not too high.

It's a superb macro lens with its 1:1 and constantly variable ratio.  The ring flash seems to go for ever - I reckon both of my lenses have had over 1000 pics each - all with the flash - and so far, no problems.  Of course, once the flash tube needs replacing, you are left with a heavy macro lens...which still takes beautiful pics!
